We humans seem to have something way down deep in our genes that moves us - maybe even drives us - to create rituals. We all do it. From what I can tell the only real differences between our civilized western rituals and those of the most primitive people we know about is that we wear different clothes and speak different languages. The ingredients are often surprisingly similar. Eating is frequently a big part of them and dance is another common feature. In one way or another the big public ones often incorporate fire. Many of them are associated with strong drink.
