At Netflix ( NFLX ), for some reason, CEO Reed Hastings thinks he can build an original programming franchise overnight. As I noted in a recent Seeking Alpha article , if Netflix actually posed a legitimate threat to HBO, the brass at Time Warner ( TWX ) would be offended.

Executives like Hastings do a disservice to investors. They, even if unintentionally, plant the false notion that companies can attain incredible (and sustainable) heights in a fraction of the time it took today's leaders to build their franchises. The only folks who win are the ones lucky enough to time and ride the hollow momentum of a stock like NFLX.

The alternative to this question is an Xbox 360. It plays DVD's, has a built in hard drive so you can store music / videos on it, and Netflix support. (Not to mention games). Xbox is really cheap these days and they are pretty decent units for entertaintment home. You can connect a keyboard, WiFi dongle and wireless remote control to turn it into a Media Center system.

@ i have a roku box, so that would stream netflix and hulu plus and amazon to my tv. cable is SO EXPENSIVE.
