Fear and Loathing at E3 2011

I was tasked with covering said event, as I am a professional journalist, though by now most of the major players in the game had wised up to my act and ensured I'd be viewing the events from a sound proof suite far away from the cameras. Those swine. Only EA was foolish enough to think that I belonged amongst the throngs of jackals and jokesters we called a press corp.

My head had begun swimming the night before when I had packed my bags. Roguelikes, RTS games, shooters, platformers, and various assorted RPGs littered my bag. Once you get locked into a serious video game collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that worried me was the DS copy of Dead or Alive. A weird, mutant of a fighting franchise, I could think of no possible reason for it to exist, but here it was on a new platform. Was it the boobs? The semi-3-D combat? The forgettable characters? And yet we knew if we played it all night, we'd see a black part of ourselves that would mark us forever.
